(2) Chinese Antique Carved Wooden Polychrome Painted Guanyin Statues as Lamps.
Pair of hand carved and painted Chinese wooden statue of Guanyin/Kuan Yin, fitted on lacquered wooden bases and turned into a pair of lamps.
Size: 8 x 8 x 33 1/2 in.
Kuan Yin, also known as Guanyin in Chinese Buddhism, is the bodhisattva of compassion and mercy, widely revered throughout East Asia. Often depicted as a serene, graceful figure—sometimes with multiple arms or eyes to aid countless beings—Kuan Yin embodies the ideal of selfless care and spiritual guidance, responding to the cries of those suffering in the world. She is frequently portrayed holding a vase of pure water or a willow branch, symbols of healing and purification, and is sometimes shown in the company of children or perched upon a lotus, signifying purity and enlightenment. Kuan Yin’s presence in art, literature, and ritual reflects both devotional practice and the aspiration toward boundless compassion, making her one of the most venerated and accessible figures in the Buddhist pantheon.
