(3) Scott National Postage Stamp Collection Albums, American 1929-1997.
Size: (each) 12 X 13 X 5 1/8 in.
These are three Scott National Postage Stamp albums filled with American stamps from 1929 through 1997, and they are all mint never hinged stamps, which means they are post office fresh and look just the way they did when someone bought them at the post office years ago - they have never been hinged or put on an envelope and sent through the mail. All the stamps are housed in Scott archival mounts, which have no acid in them, so the mounts can’t damage the stamps. Some collectors like to put hinges on the back of their stamps to put the stamps in an album, but not here - the collector just used the Scott mounts to protect the stamps - and the stamps have the original gum on the back of the stamps, and the albums are part of Scott’s Specialty Series and housed in beautiful slipcases too.
Part 1 covers stamps from 1845 to 1934 and the first 25 pages have not been filled in yet because those are the very earliest of US stamps - you can fill them in if you’d like - and the first “stamp” in the album is an admission ticket for the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, with number 47601 below George Washington’s portrait, then the album continues with some of the two-cent reds from 1929 and goes all the way up to 1969. There are over 740 mint never hinged stamps in this part, including the complete Prexy series from 1938 to 1954 and the Prexy series from 1954 to 1968, with the high-value $5 mint never hinged stamps in both sets; there are ten souvenir sheets, including the two Century of Progress souvenir sheets from 1933 (both mint never hinged), and there are coils and imperforates in this album as well.
Part 2 covers stamps from 1935 to 1976, and there are over 1500 mint never hinged stamps in the album, with all four Bicentennial Souvenir sheets, the U.S. Presidents Souvenir Sheets (Ameripex 1986), the state birds and flowers sheet and North American Wildlife sheet, among others, and there are Black Heritage stamps in the collection too.
Part 3 covers stamps from 1977 to 1993, and there are over 1500 mint never hinged stamps in this album, with numerous commemorative and souvenir sheets here, including the recalled Legends of the West sheet and the Celebrate the Century sheets, the 25th Anniversary of the First Moon Landing and Endangered Species sheets, and much more.
Altogether there are over 3800 commemorative and definitive stamps in the albums, all mint never hinged, with a face value of approximately $900 in mint never hinged stamps for the three albums. The albums are complete, but there are no plate blocks, just one airmail Special Delivery stamp present, no other back-of-the book stamps in any of the albums, and there is just one stamp missing from the whole set - a 15 cent John Paul Jones perf 12 stamp from 1979 and that’s it - all the other stamps are present and they make a good starter set or filler set for kids and adults alike. If you ever wanted to use the stamps for postage, you could do that and you’d have $900 in stamps that you could put on envelopes today and send them through the mail, although that’s not the best way to use the stamps, especially if they came out in the 1920’s and 1930’s and included the Prexy series stamps from the 1930’s and 1950’s - some have collectible value from way back then, and you just don’t get them Post Office fresh like this. The mounts have kept the stamps well preserved, with no wear or tear, and the stamps look they like just came out of the Post Office today. The albums are 12 x 13 inches wide and in great condition. The bindings and pages are beautiful, clean and tight, the spring mechanisms snap back into position when you close the binding, none of the pages are loose, and the stamps are perfectly preserved in the Scott mounts - the pages are very clean and they reflect the pride of the person who assembled the collection. We used the 2024 Scott Specialized Catalogue of the United States Stamps & Covers to determine value, and we are low-balling the opening bid to get things going.
