- Lot Description
(3) Silvered Metal Putti Figures. Lot comprised of three small silvered mixed metal putti or cherub figures in traditional togas; one eating grapes, one with plate of food, one with wine flask. Attached with screwed to matching circular display pedestals.
Putti are cherubic, often nude childlike figures commonly depicted in European art, especially from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Typically shown with plump bodies, wings, and playful or serene expressions, putti are frequently used to symbolize love, innocence, or divine presence, depending on the context. In religious art, they may appear as angelic attendants, while in mythological or decorative scenes, they often embody Cupid-like qualities, frolicking among flowers, holding garlands, or engaging in mischievous acts. Originating from classical Greco-Roman imagery, putti became especially popular in frescoes, sculptures, and decorative arts from the 15th to 18th centuries. Their enduring appeal lies in their blend of innocence, beauty, and symbolic versatility, making them a recurring motif in both sacred and secular works.
