(7) Early 20th Century Chinese Hand Decorated Export Porcelain Plates. Lot of seven hand painted Chinese export porcelain plates with various decorations, predominantly floral. One with cranes. One with phoenix. Marked CHINA on back.
Condition: Loss of glaze on underside of one plate. Crackling glaze.
Largest Size: 10 x 1 in.
Chinese export porcelain plates were produced primarily from the 16th to the 19th centuries for trade with Europe and the Americas, becoming one of the most sought-after luxury goods of the global market. Made from fine, high-fired porcelain and often decorated with cobalt blue underglaze or colorful overglaze enamels, these plates showcased intricate designs that blended Chinese artistic traditions with Western tastes. Motifs ranged from traditional Chinese landscapes and floral patterns to customized coats of arms and European-style scenes commissioned by foreign merchants. Valued for their beauty, durability, and exotic appeal, these plates were widely collected and displayed, playing a key role in the cultural exchange between East and West.
