A. E. Barnes, born in 1963 in Daytona Beach, Florida, grew up surrounded by art but initially pursued other interests, including astronomy and interior design. She studied Philosophy and Comparative Religion at the University of West Florida and explored various careers before discovering her passion for painting in 1989. Inspired during a visit to her family’s North Carolina cabin, she painted her first portrait on a wooden board, a surface she continues to favor. Self-taught and influenced by the Fauves, Barnes quickly gained recognition with exhibitions across the U.S. Today, she paints on commission, focusing on oils and acrylics across a wide range of subjects.
