Abelardo Marquez Velazquez (Born 1938) Peruvian, Abstract Oil on Canvas. Depicts a buffalo in the foreground with riders in the background in glorious muddled tones. Signed bottom left.
Overall Size: 27 1/2 x 24 in.
Sight Size: 23 1/2 x 19 1/2 in.
Abelardo Marquez Velazquez was born in 1938 in Lima, Peru, and studied art at the Escuela De Bellas Artes before abandoning more “modern” techniques and studying with local native painters. He became world famous for his combination of Impressionist and local styles in creating breathtaking landscapes of Peru, mainly the Andes Mountains, as well as for depicting the people of his native country at work and at play. He has never participated in an exhibition outside of his home country, frequently insisting that they encourage competition rather than creativity, and in his later years began to explore more abstract forms, selling new works from his home studio to this day.
