Sight Size: 4 3/4 x 8 1/2 in.Adriaen van Ostade (1610–1685) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and printmaker renowned for his vivid depictions of peasant life and rustic interiors. Born in Haarlem, he studied under Frans Hals and was influenced by Rembrandt, particularly in his use of chiaroscuro. Van Ostade's works often portray scenes of everyday life, such as tavern gatherings, village fairs, and domestic interiors, characterized by their rich detail and warm, earthy tones. His oeuvre includes over 900 paintings and numerous etchings, with notable works like The Fish Market and Customers Conversing in a Tavern. Van Ostade's art provides a window into 17th-century Dutch society, capturing the humor and humanity of common folk. His legacy endures through his influence on genre painting and the continued appreciation of his work in major art institutions worldwide.
