After Gustav Dore (1832–1883) French, Reproduction Etching Print, Beggar Children. Reproduction engraving print of Dore's figural illustration of two beggars. Framed.

Sight Size: 15 1/4 x 11 1/4 in.
Gustave Doré (1832–1883) was a prolific French artist, illustrator, and engraver renowned for his dramatic and imaginative visual interpretations of literary classics. A child prodigy, he began publishing illustrations at just 15, and his career quickly expanded to include works for authors such as Dante, Cervantes, Milton, and the Bible. His engravings for The Divine Comedy and Don Quixote are especially celebrated for their intricate detail and atmospheric power. Doré's style combined Romanticism with a strong narrative sensibility, influencing generations of illustrators and filmmakers. Despite achieving immense fame in his lifetime, he died relatively young, leaving behind a vast body of work that continues to shape the visual language of myth, literature, and the fantastical.
