Albrecth Adam (1786 - 1862) French, Hand Colored Print "Redditon a Ulm (Surrender at Ulm)". Hand colored print reproduction of Adam's work depicting the Austrian surrender to Napoleon during the Ulm Campaign, 1805. Titled and attributed along bottom. Framed.
Overall Size: 13 1/4 x 19 1/4 in.
Sight Size: 8 1/2 x 13 in.Albrecht Adam (16 April 1786 – 28 August 1862) was a German painter and printmaker celebrated for his vivid battle scenes, soldier studies and equestrian works, which made him one of the foremost military and horse painters of the 19th century. Born in Nördlingen, Bavaria, he initially trained in drawing before being appointed court painter to Eugène de Beauharnais, Napoleon’s stepson and Viceroy of Italy, and accompanying the Grande Armée during the 1812 Russian campaign, producing numerous sketches and later lithographs documenting the campaign’s landscapes and battles. After settling in Munich, Adam received commissions from royal patrons including the Bavarian kings and continued to depict military subjects, horses, and genre scenes throughout his long career; his artistic legacy was carried on by his sons, who also became painters.
