Andy Warhol (1928-1987) American, Poster. Artist's name and the original title and date of production at the bottom.
One of his most famous images, rendered in bright greens, reds, pinks, blues, and rich black outlines. Depicting Campbells soup can.
Condition: Some damage to frame and warping of poster paper. Overall, very good.
Overall Size: 25 1/4 x 37 1/4 in.
Sight Size: 23 3/8 x 35 5/8 in.
Andy Warhol (1928-1987), a sickly child who showed an early talent for drawing, studied commercial art before moving to New York to work as an illustrator. He founded the Pop Art movement in the early 1960s by painting ordinary mass-produced items like Campbell's soup cans, deliberately blurring the line between fine and commercial art. From 1962 onward, Warhol utilized silkscreen printing to mass-produce iconic images of celebrities, polarizing the art scene and cementing his fame. Despite an assassination attempt and later reclusion, his eccentric persona and creative production at The Factory left a lasting legacy as a cultural anthropologist of 20th-century consumerism.
