Ann Scott Kelly (née Bain), born in Renfrew, Scotland, moved to Boston at age thirteen, and her artistic potential was recognized a few years later by her brother George, a dedicated art student, though she did not fully devote herself to painting until after her marriage in 1941. During residencies in seven states due to her husband’s job, she studied under various instructors, experimenting with a wide range of techniques and media, producing work on tole, plaster plaques, figurines, and canvas in pastels, oils, acrylics, and watercolors. Her versatility spans portraiture, landscapes, marine scenes, animals, and florals, including meticulous reproductions of famous paintings using museum prints, with precise color work. Since moving to Sarasota, Florida, in 1966, she has attended workshops with artists such as Sarah Wilkinson, Frank Jennings, and Mitchell Friedberg, blending their teachings with earlier influences to create works of exceptional merit, earning dozens of ribbon awards.
