Attributed to Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668) Dutch, Oil on Canvas. Plaque along the bottom.
Dynamic 17th–18th century battle scene, oil on canvas, depicting cavalry engaged in fierce combat before a fortified tower. The composition is filled with dramatic movement, with mounted soldiers clashing at the center and fallen figures in the foreground. Strong contrasts of light and shadow emphasize the chaos of war, while smoke and architecture frame the violent encounter. The work demonstrates vigorous brushwork and a rich palette of earthy tones, characteristic of Baroque martial painting.
