B.C. Nowlin (born 1949) is a self-taught American artist from Alameda, New Mexico, whose evocative paintings reflect a rich tapestry of cultural influences. Growing up adjacent to the Sandia Pueblo Reservation, Nowlin was immersed in both Hispanic traditions and Native Puebloan mysticism. His early experiences, including time in seminary school and service in the U.S. Marine Corps, contribute to the depth and complexity of his work. Nowlin's art, characterized by luminous colors and spiritual themes, often portrays abstracted Native figures and landscapes, capturing the essence of the American Southwest. Without formal art education, he developed a unique style that has garnered international recognition, with his works featured in galleries and corporate collections worldwide.
