C. Bennette Moore (1879–1939) American, Three Tinted Landscape Photographs from New Orleans.
Overall Size: 8 x 10 1/2 in.
Sight Size: 5 x 7 in.C. Bennette Moore (1879–1939) was a prominent portrait and scenic photographer based in New Orleans, widely recognized for four decades of influential work beginning in the early 1900s. Born in Sauk Center, Minnesota, he served in the Spanish–American War before relocating to New Orleans in 1899 and eventually purchasing the Julien Emile Rivoire studio in 1904, which he rebranded under his own name. Moore’s studio—later run by his wife and daughters—became famous for both refined portraits of local elites and vibrant, hand-colored images of French Quarter street scenes, courtyards, and landmarks sold as studio prints and postcards. His photographs were often enhanced in studio with hand-applied color by his family, and the archive remained active until the late 1960s; today, much of Moore’s collection is preserved by The Historic New Orleans Collection. His works have appeared in auction catalogs with realized prices ranging from modest to over a thousand dollars, depending on size and rarity.
