Chinese Blue and Underglaze Copper Red Fan-Shaped Plaque. Chinese hand painted porcelain fan-shaped plaque with images of flying birds among branches. In fitted box.
Size: 10 x 21 in.
Chinese fan-shaped ceramic plaques, often produced during the Qing dynasty, were decorative porcelain panels shaped like the traditional folding fan and typically mounted within wooden stands or furniture. Their curved format provided a graceful surface for painted decoration, echoing the aesthetics of fan painting while transferring it onto durable porcelain. These plaques were frequently adorned with finely detailed landscapes, birds-and-flowers compositions, calligraphy, or figure scenes, executed in famille rose or underglaze blue palettes. Combining the literati tradition of fan painting with the technical brilliance of porcelain, they served both as elegant ornaments and as demonstrations of artistic refinement, prized by collectors for their fusion of painting, poetry, and craftsmanship.
