Chinese Famille Rose Painted Porcelain Fish Bowl. Hand painted porcelain fish bowl with dense floral decoration with floral bouquets in medallion, birds, and fish. Interior bowl decorated with fish and plants. Unmarked. Includes base.
Size: 22 x 22 x 18 in.
Height (+Base): 29 1/2 in.Chinese fish bowls, traditionally large, rounded ceramic or porcelain vessels, have been used for centuries both as practical aquaria and decorative objects. Often elaborately decorated with hand-painted motifs—ranging from aquatic scenes and lotus flowers to symbolic creatures like dragons and carp—these bowls combine artistry with function, reflecting the Chinese aesthetic of harmonizing nature and human-made objects. In addition to housing fish, they sometimes served as water basins or planters, embodying principles of Feng Shui and the cultural symbolism of abundance, prosperity, and good fortune.
