Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Covered Bowl. Chinese porcelain covered bowl featuring hand-painted famille rose style illustrations of figures in a garden setting, complete with a domed lid and metal-mounted side handles.
Size: 7 x 7 x 4 in.
Famille rose porcelain is a category of Chinese porcelain distinguished by its soft, opaque enamel palette dominated by pinks derived from colloidal gold, developed during the Qing dynasty in the early 18th century, particularly under the Yongzheng and Qianlong emperors. Building on earlier famille verte techniques, famille rose allowed for greater tonal subtlety, shading, and painterly detail, enabling more naturalistic depictions of figures, flowers, and narrative scenes. Highly prized in both China and Europe, famille rose wares were produced for imperial use, domestic consumption, and export, and they played a significant role in influencing European porcelain traditions through imitation and adaptation.
