- Lot Description
Cut Crystal and Electroplate Nickel Silver Six Piece Cruet Set. Spoon marked with "A L P & A EP" and all metal pieces marked "EPNS." The style of the stamped letters suggests that they came from Sheffield, England.
Condition: Commensurate with age.
Size: 10 3/4 x 7 x 9 1/2 in.
A cruet-stand (or cruet in British English) is a small stand of metal, ceramic, or glass which holds containers for condiments. Typically these include salt and pepper shakers, and often cruets or bottles of vinegar and olive oil. The stand and containers form a cruet set. From the late 18th to the early 20th Centuries cruet sets became ornate and stylized, depending upon the fashion of the day, while in modern times they are less likely to be opulent and crystalline and more simple, functional, plastic or vinyl holders.
