Danny Garcia was born in Monterey, California on April 23, 1929. At an early age he worked for three years as a Laboratory Assistant to Ed Ricketts, the true-life model for the character of "Doc" in John Steinbeck's classic novel Cannery Row.
Garcia spent time in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard a naval destroyer. Afterwards he returned home to Monterey and studied art and architecture at Monterey Peninsula College. He graduated from that school in 1954.
His artistic style can be considered abstract impressionism. His works are in collections in the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Far East and in the personal collections of Princess Margaret of Great Britain, and singers Trini Lopez, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin.
His works are also in the permanent collections of the Kaiser Center Art Gallery in Oakland, the Museum of Natural History and Art in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and the Masur Museum of Art in Monroe, Louisiana.
He has been commissioned to do religious images for the Chapel of the Most Precious Blood in Concord, California, and St. Jude's Church in Marina, California. He also is active in producing sculpture and ceramic works. Garcia has participated in many Northern California exhibitions and has been an award-winning artist in many venues.
Garcia and his family, including his two children, Linda and Gary, live in Carmel overlooking the Pacific. Until recently he owned and operated the Garcia Gallery in Carmel, California. He continues to be active in the Monterey Peninsula art community.
