Ernst Gustav Zipperer (1888–1982) German, Cityscape Architectural Landscape Etching "Regensberg, Rothsburger". Etching print of a well-known street in Regensberg, Rothsburger. Titled lower left. Signed lower right. Framed.
Overall Size: 18 1/2 x 13 1/4 x 1/2 in.
Sight Size: 8 1/2 x 6 1/4 in.Ernst Gustav Zipperer (1888–1982) was a distinguished German painter, etcher, and art educator celebrated for his precision-rich drypoint engravings and atmospheric landscapes. Born in Ulm, he trained at several institutions—including Hanover, Kassel, and Munich—before serving as a drawing instructor in Berlin from 1914 onward, despite losing an eye during World War I. Between 1918 and 1940, Zipperer produced over 400 architectural and urban scenes—castles, canals, churches—characterized by meticulous perspective and chiaroscuro effects that brought his subjects to life. After purchasing Tannenburg Castle in 1931, he entered a late-career phase (1950–1972) in which he experimented with abstraction and pastel works alongside his etching practice. His works are held in German museum collections and remain valued for their harmony of technical rigor and emotive depth.
