- Lot Description
Exceptional Pair of Late 19th Early 20th Century French Sevres Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Covered Urns. Detailed dore bronze gilt face mask handles terminating in a high gilt bronze Louis style foot. Gilt pineapple finial atop the covers. Still life medallions on one side and figural central medallions on the other with a man and woman in each, wearing different clothing. Signed on the undersides of the lids.
Condition: Minor traces of losses to the gilding on the cover, but the still life medallions are well preserved.Size: 12 x 6 1/2 x 4 in.
Sèvres porcelain, produced near Paris since the 18th century, is renowned for its luxurious craftsmanship, vibrant glazes like “bleu céleste” and “rose Pompadour,” and intricate hand-painted designs with lavish gilding. Originally backed by King Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour, the manufactory perfected both soft- and hard-paste porcelain, becoming a favorite among European royalty. Today, it continues as a state-run institution, blending historic techniques with modern artistic collaborations.
