Exhibition Size Newcomb Macklin Frame. Exhibition-size giltwood picture frame featuring broad moulding adorned with classical fluted and beaded detailing in the signature style of Newcomb-Macklin. Designed by Stanford White.
Overall Size: 50 x 44 in.
Sight Size: 36 x 30 in.
Newcomb-Macklin was one of the most respected American makers of handcrafted picture frames during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded in Chicago in 1885, the company became renowned for producing high-quality carved and gilded frames in styles ranging from Renaissance Revival and Baroque to Arts and Crafts and modern designs. Newcomb-Macklin worked closely with leading museums, galleries, artists, and collectors, creating custom frames that complemented and enhanced fine art rather than overshadowing it. The firm's exceptional craftsmanship, use of traditional materials such as genuine gold leaf, and attention to historical accuracy established it as the premier frame manufacturer in the United States, and its original frames remain highly prized by museums and collectors today.
