Francisco Goya (1746-1828) Spanish, 1868 Third Edition Aquatint Etching. Titled "Hobgoblins".
Aquatint etching on wove paper from 1868 third edition run of Goya’s Hobgoblins, depicting grotesque, mischievous creatures in a dark, nightmarish landscape, reflecting the artist’s fascination with superstition, fear, and the irrational aspects of human nature. Framed.
Includes Park West CoA

Sight Size: 9 3/4 x 6 1/4 in.Francisco Goya (1746-1828) was a Spanish painter and printmaker widely regarded as one of the most important artists of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Renowned for his versatility, Goya created works ranging from elegant court portraits to stark, emotionally charged depictions of war, suffering, and human folly. His mastery of light and psychological depth bridged the gap between traditional Rococo style and the emerging Romantic movement. Goya's later works, including the haunting Black Paintings, cemented his legacy as a visionary whose profound exploration of darkness and societal critique continues to influence generations of artists.
