Harry Leith-Ross (1886-1973) American, Conte on Paper. Titled "On the Delaware, Lambertville". Conte crayon on paper drawing overlooking the Delaware river. Signed L-R lower left. Framed.

Sight Size: 6 x 8 1/4 in.Harry Leith-Ross (1886-1973) was a Scottish-born American painter known for his impressionistic landscapes and his role in the Pennsylvania Impressionist movement. After studying in England and Paris, he immigrated to the United States, where he trained under William Merritt Chase and later settled in New Hope, Pennsylvania, a hub for American Impressionism. His work is marked by luminous color, broken brushwork, and a sensitivity to natural light, often depicting rural scenes, small towns, and countryside vistas. Beyond painting, Leith-Ross was also a respected teacher and author of The Landscape Painter’s Manual (1956), which distilled his artistic philosophy and technique. Today, his paintings remain celebrated for their atmospheric charm and their connection to the broader American plein-air tradition.
