Irish Belleek Porcelain Owl Figurine. Open top so the sculpture can be used as a vase. Marked on underside.
Size: 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 8 in.
Belleek Pottery began in 1849 when John Caldwell Bloomfield established the pottery works in Belleek, Ireland, to provide employment during the Great Famine after a geological survey revealed rich local minerals. Trading as a company since 1884, Belleek is renowned for its signature Parian ware, a distinctively thin and iridescent porcelain that quickly gained international prestige, being collected by nobility and expanding into markets across the globe by 1865. Despite shifts to earthenware during the World Wars and multiple changes in ownership, the company returned to porcelain production and continues to expand its brands today, maintaining an average annual production of over 100,000 pieces.
