- Lot Description
Jacobi & Co. Sterling Silver Footed Repousse Serving Tray - 4.845 ozt. An exquisite spiked almond shape, with detailed repousse work in the bottom and surrounding the monogram in center. Four feet support the main body. Marked on the underside.
Size: 7 /1 2 x 4 1/4 in.
Weight: 4.845 ozt.
Jacobi & Co. began as A. Jacobi & Co. in Baltimore, Maryland in 1879, started by a German immigrant named Adolf Jacobi. They were particularly known for their detailed repousse work and their use of fine sterling silver, but in 1890 his son took over after his death and joined with another local silversmith to create Jacobi & Jenkins. The union was short-lived, as four years later the partnership dissolved into two new companies called Jacobi & Co. and Jenkins & Jenkins. The former was absorbed into the latter in 1908, and the Schofield Company bought all the tools and dies from the two companies in 1915, ending the trademark but continuing to use the patterns for at least a decade.
