Le Thanh Son (Born 1962) Vietnam, Oil on Canvas Landscape Painting. Oil on canvas. Depicting a shady path beneath a tree leading to the sea. Signed lower left. Framed.

Sight Size: 52 1/2 x 60 1/2 in.
Lê Thánh Tông (also rendered Lê Thánh Tôn or Le Thanh Son in some Western references, though the latter is less standard) was a 15th-century emperor of Đại Việt (Vietnam), ruling from 1460 to 1497 and considered one of the most effective and culturally influential monarchs in Vietnamese history. He centralized royal authority, reformed the civil service along Confucian lines, and implemented a merit-based examination system that strengthened the bureaucracy. His reign saw territorial expansion, legal codification through the Hồng Đức law code, and a flourishing of literature and scholarship, with the emperor himself being a poet and patron of the arts. Lê Thánh Tông’s era is often regarded as a golden age of governance and cultural development, laying foundations that shaped Vietnamese statecraft for centuries.
