Mauricio Lasansky (1914–2012) was an Argentine-American artist and educator, widely regarded as a pioneering figure in 20th-century printmaking. Born in Buenos Aires to Eastern European Jewish immigrants, he began his artistic journey under the guidance of his father, a banknote engraver. Lasansky studied at the Superior School of Fine Arts in Argentina and later became the director of the Free School of Fine Arts in Villa María. In 1943, he moved to the United States with the support of a Guggenheim Fellowship and eventually became a U.S. citizen. He joined the University of Iowa in 1945, where he established the first Master of Fine Arts program in printmaking in the U.S., influencing generations of artists. Lasansky's work is characterized by his innovative use of drypoint and intaglio techniques, often employing multiple plates to create complex, richly textured images. His most renowned series, "The Nazi Drawings" (1961–1966), comprises 33 powerful pencil and watercolor works that confront the horrors of the Holocaust. These drawings have been exhibited at institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art and the University of Iowa Museum of Art. Lasansky's contributions to the arts have been recognized with multiple Guggenheim Fellowships and honorary doctorates from several universities
