- Lot Description
Mexican Maciel Hand Hammered and Detailed 90% Silver Footed Bowl - 10.095 ozt. Two delicate handles with a pretty repeating flower and leaf design all around the scalloped sides. Company name and 900/1000 marked on the underside, indicating the level of silver.
Condition: Commensurate with age.
Size: 9 1/2 x 6 x 2 3/4 in.
Weight: 10.095 ozt.
The Maciel Silver Company started as a small workshop in Mexico City around 1930, and rapidly grew into a large factory during the World War II era. They predominantly produced sterling silver items with floral motifs, Mexican cultural symbols like eagles and serpents, and a hand-hammered finish, although during economic downturns they would often use 90% or coin silver. The company went out of business some time around 1970, but many of their more ornate pieces are still highly sought by collectors to this day.
