- Lot Description
Olle Alberius (1926-1993) Swedish, Orrefors Crystal Residence Swirl Bowl. Elegant but simple twisting pattern with a small foot and octagonal mouth. Signed on the underside.
Size: 7 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 5 in.
Sven-Olaf Alberius (commonly known as Olle Alberius) was born on April 8th, 1926 and studied art at Konstfack in Stockholm before going to work for Syco Keramik in Stromstad. Rising quickly in the Scandinavian pottery world, he became one of the leading ceramic designers for the Rorstrand Pottery factory in the late 1950s. In the 60s he was introduced to art glass and joined Orrefors in 1971, where he became one of their key designers known for utilizing numerous techniques including Ariel, Ravenna, and Graal. He remained with them until his death on June 12th, 1993, and his work is represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and countless public and private collections around the world.
