- Lot Description
Set of (12) Chippendale Style Mahogany Dining Chairs - AS IS. Full dining room set, including ten side chairs and two arm chairs. Blue upholstery for the seats.
Condition: Commensurate with age and use. Fading on all upholstery and significantly damage to wood on most pieces.
Size: 25 x 23 x 37 1/2 in.
Prior to Thomas Chippendale (1718-1779), most styles of furniture were named after the currently reigning monarch, such as Louis XV or Queen Anne, but during the end of the reign of King George II the name Chippendale first took hold. According to the Victoria and Albert Museum, “so influential were his designs, in Britain and throughout Europe and America, that ‘Chippendale’ became a shorthand description for any furniture similar to his Director designs.”
