Susan E. Jameson was born in 1944 in Penrith, Cumberland, in the United Kingdom. She studied at Carlisle College of Art from 1960 to 64, winning a travel scholarship to Florence, Italy in 1963 where she became interested in landscapes and architecture. Following this, she spent a year at Goldsmith’s College of Art in London, where she first discovered lithography. In 1971 Jameson continued her studies by taking a course in printmaking at the Central School of Art, and working as a master printer in an etching studio for two years. After a varied career in the late 70s through the 80s working as an archaeological restorer, printer, and photographer, Jameson now devotes all her time to her art career, becoming one of the leading champions of the difficult process of making mezzotints. The prints often reflect her origins in the Cumbrian countryside, with dramatic landscapes, moonscapes, and sunsets. Her first solo show was at the Graffiti Gallery in London, followed by a group exhibition at the Davidson Gallery in Seattle, Washington, both in 1990. Her prints have been exhibited throughout Europe and the United States, with regular showings at Print Biennales in Krakow, Ljubljana, and Biella. Her work is in public and private collections throughout the world, and she now focuses exclusively on printmaking, offering courses in mezzotint to apprentices at her home studio in Penrith.
