An etching of Venice by T. F. Simon, an influential Czech print maker, painter, and woodcut artist. Simon studied art at the Academy of Prague.and eventually resided in both Paris and Prague. He was strongly influenced by the French Impressionists and became known for his images of New York City, Paris, and Prague, and landscapes depicted in color aquatints and wood engravings.
Basically a traditionalist in style, Simon did much to champion the cause of Czech printmaking throughout the world. His efforts paved the way for a generation of artists such as Max Svabinsky, Preissig and Kotik.
Examples of Simon's wood engravings are housed in the permanent collections of the Gallery of Modern Art in Prague and le Musee d'Art Moderne de Paris. The overall size is 24 x 30 in. and the sight size is 16 1/2 x 20 1/2 in.
