TOWLE Sterling and Enamel Revere Style Bowl. Sterling silver and teal enamel interior Revere style bowl. Marked on base.
Towle Silversmiths is one of America’s oldest and most esteemed silver manufacturers, tracing its roots to colonial Massachusetts in 1690 when William Moulton II began silversmithing in Newbury (later Newburyport). The brand, officially established as Towle & Jones in 1857 and later reorganized under Anthony F. Towle as A.F. Towle & Son, ultimately became Towle Silversmiths in the late 19th century. Famous for its sterling flatware, Towle introduced iconic patterns such as Candlelight (1934), Marie Louise (1939)—which became the official pattern for U.S. embassies worldwide—and the modernist “Contour” design in 1950, the first American-made, production-line flatware to be featured in MoMA’s Good Design exhibition. After filing for bankruptcy in 1986, Towle was acquired by Syratech in 1990 and later became part of Lifetime Brands in 2006. Today, Towle remains a symbol of American craftsmanship and design excellence in sterling, silver-plated, and stainless flatware and hollowware.
