Vintage Eastman Kodak Darkroom Timer. Vintage Kodak timer by Eastman of Rochester, New York, in bright red metal casing with adjustable display.
Size: 5 x 3 x 5 1/2 in.
Kodak darkroom timers were essential tools for photographers working with film and photographic paper, designed to provide precise timing for exposure, development, and other chemical processes in the darkroom. Typically housed in sturdy metal casings with large, easy-to-read dials or electric clock faces, they ensured consistency and accuracy in tasks where even a few seconds could alter the outcome of an image. Popular in the mid-20th century, Kodak timers often featured luminous hands or audible alarms to aid photographers working under safelights. Though largely obsolete with the rise of digital photography, these timers remain collectible both for their nostalgic connection to the golden age of film and for their robust, utilitarian design that still appeals to analog enthusiasts.
