The following is from Mark Diederichsen, collector of work by this artist: He credits "Artists in California 1786-1940" by Edan Hughes: William D. Dampier (1910-1985) was born in Spokane, Washington in 1910. He spent most of his life in Los Angeles with a studio atop Mount Washington. He was a pupil of Jack Wilkinson Smith and Ejnar Hansen. An impressionist, his work is characterized by brilliant color and fine draftsmanship. His subjects include desert landscapes and still lifes.
