William Matthews (Born 1949) American, Original Cowboy Watercolor on Paper. Title: "Firelight." Exquisitely detailed, painted in sepia colors with minute precision, depicting a man with a handlebar mustache and cowboy hat with his back turned and the light reflecting off his face. Signed in pencil bottom right vertically.
Overall Size: 29 1/4 x 26 in.
Sight Size: 28 1/4 x 18 in.
William Matthews was born in New York City in 1949 and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, drawn to art all his life and finding his first paid work in Los Angeles designing album covers for Warner Bros. and Capital Records. He spent five years in Europe exploring art in many mediums and forms, returning in 1980 to live in Colorado and open his own graphic design studio. In 1990 his love of cowboy imagery and the American West led him to dedicate himself to painting full time in oils and watercolors, with his works appearing in many books, galleries, and museums ever since.
