Laura Proctor Ames (phone conversation 12/8/25) stated this cast was produced by Proctor’s grandson (Sandy Church) in a limited edition. There were 11 examples cast (out of proposed edition size of 50) using Proctor’s original plaster. She noted that great care was taken to produce a very high quality cast. The last example was cast in 1915 and no further examples will be cast.
The addition of the coin medal was added to the cast as proof it was a family authorized Proctor Family cast.]
This bust of the 26th president of the United States was created by Alexander Phimister Proctor sometime around 1922, when the artist was commissioned by Henry Waldo Coe, a friend of the late president, to create a large monument of Teddy Roosevelt on horseback as a Rough Rider. The monument was given to the city of Portland, where it remained until it was severely damaged during unrest in the city in 2020. Prior to the monument’s completion, Proctor said he felt strongly about Roosevelt because, like so many adventurous spirits of the 1800s, he wanted to be a Rough Rider. The casting of the monument is documented in “The Making of a Bronze Statue,” a 1922 silent film by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The film, which has been digitized and is available online, was the first time a complete bronze casting process was ever put on film. - Shipping Info

The form requires a credit card. In addition to the $100 per lot deposit included on your invoice for shipping, your card will be charged and you will receive an updated invoice for any charges over and above the deposit for the cost of shipping (including the box(es), carrier fees and $50 handling per lot).
IMPORTANT: If you choose to coordinate shipping through a third party shipping company or pickup your items from the auction we are required by Arizona State law to charge Arizona sales tax on this transaction AND our insurance will not cover the shipment.
