It was only fitting that Washington’s great pitcher Walter Johnson would lead the team to its first pennant and only World Championship in 1924. The Big Train lost Game 1 and Game 5, but in true hero fashion, Johnson took the mound in the deciding Game 7 and outdueled Jack Bentley to win the game and series. This World Series Champions pendant with a diamond was given to Senators ticket manager John F. Morrissey. An embossed image of the US Capitol building looms above a ball and bats motif. “WORLD CHAMPIONS 1924” is lettered in gold set in a blue enamel ring with a home plate at the bottom upon which a diamond is mounted. A ring at the top allows its attachment to a watch chain or necklace. The reverse is engraved “John F. Morrissey.” The pendant shows a nice amount of wear from use — as Morrissey was a longtime employee of the team, this piece, representing the only championship in franchise history, must have been something he kept with him throughout the decades.
