- Lot Description
A man whose name became synonymous with artificial pine tar, Manny Mota began his 20-year MLB career with the San Francisco Giants in 1962. He was traded that offseason to Pittsburgh where he spent the next six season. His longest tenure came with the L.A. Dodgers (1969-80). The leftfielder and reliable utility player retired with an impressive .304 career average, 1,149 hits and 438 RBI.
Offered here is Mota's 1968 Pittsburgh Pirates game worn and signed home jersey in the team's popular tank-top style. The cream flannel has "PIRATES" arched across the chest along with his No. "15" on the left torso and again on the verso. Letters and numbers are done in black-on-yellow felt material. Proper Rawlings size 42 tagging is sewn on the left front tail along with "Mota" below in black chain-stitching. Another label below gas a "SET 1 1968" flag tag. Black and yellow piping surround the collar and sleeve openings. Manny Mota has autographed the inner collar in blue marker. The all-original jersey comes as-issued and displays excellent wear with heavy pilling and fraying, especially along the collar piping. This was part of the Barry Halper Collection sold by Sotheby's in 2000. It comes with a Halper Estate COA and a full LOA from PSA/DNA for the autograph.
