Nov 5, 2025 - Nov 22, 2025
On November 1, 2025, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays played one of the most epic Game 7s in World Series history. After Bo Bichette’s three-run shot put the Blue Jays up 3-0 in the third inning, the Dodgers clawed their way back as they had done all series. By the time the top of the ninth inning rolled around, Toronto was holding a tight 4-3 lead with their closer Jeff Hoffman trying to put the finishing touches on the Blue Jays’ first title in 32 years.
With one out in the ninth, enter the unlikeliest of heroes: Miguel Rojas. The Dodgers’ 36-year-old utility infielder stepped to the plate having hit no homers in the playoffs and only one against a right-handed pitcher all season long. After battling Hoffman to a full count, Rojas drove a hanging slider 387 feet over the Dodgers bullpen into a Toronto fan’s glove leaning over from the bleachers. The unlikely blast tied the score at 4-4, sending shockwaves throughout the Rogers Centre and silencing the Blue Jays faithful. In the bottom of the ninth, it was Rojas again wearing a cape – this time on defense at second base. With the bases loaded and one out, he fielded a grounder up the middle and made a perfect throw home for a crucial force out. (This was followed by a stressful colliding catch in center by Andy Pages to keep the game tied.) Miguel Rojas had effectively saved the Dodgers’ season and became the key catalyst as L.A. would complete a memorable comeback and repeat as World Series champions.
Almost equally as improbable as the man who hit the clutch homer was the duo that caught this offered home run ball and Will Smith’s game-winning shot in the 11th inning. As fate would have it, John and Matthew Bains – father and son – caught Rojas’ and Smith’s homers, respectively, and have consigned them both to SCP Auctions. After snagging Rojas’ homer with a great catch – a lesson to bring your glove to games – John Bains appeared to throw back that same World Series ball. Instead, he quickly switched it with a regular Major League ball he had in his pocket. The clever switcheroo was caught on video. "I had a feeling I might have to do that," said Bains after. You can view the video of the ball switch HERE.
It should be noted that the Bains’ season tickets are purposefully located in the left-field bleachers to give them a chance at catching home run balls. In fact, just a few weeks earlier, they had already caught home runs hit by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ernie Clement in the ALDS vs. the Yankees.
The Official 2025 World Series (Rob Manfred) baseball exhibits obvious game use from the Rojas homer. A notarized affidavit signed by John Bains is included, certifying that this is indeed the ball. For additional security, John passed a polygraph test, the results of which are available upon request.
