- Lot Description
From the best player in baseball, Mr. 50/50 himself, comes this PSA/DNA GU 10 photo-matched gamer from four-time MVP Shohei Ohtani’s first MVP season in 2021 with the L.A. Angels. Our present-day version of Babe Ruth belted 46 home runs and drove in 100 runs at the dish, while going 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 156 Ks in 130 innings on the bump. During a weekend series at the Big A against the Seattle Mariners, “Sho-Time” first hit two triples with this black ASICS bat in a 14-1 victory on the evening of Saturday, September 25th. Ohtani was the starting pitcher the very next day and threw seven sharp innings of five-hit ball, allowing just one run while striking out ten. At the plate, he went 1-fo-3 with a single.
The ASICS professional model ‘OS17’ birch bat with a black finish and cupped end comes un-cracked and displays outstanding use. Ball contact marks cover the barrel with evidence of blue ink transfers and white leather scuffs. There are cleat marks on the front and right barrel as well as imprints from Ohtani’s batting gloves. Deep depression points on the back barrel (with a minor paint chip) are presumably from the use of a weighted batting donut. Japanese letters, “Goldstage” and “Birch” are stamped in white on the front barrel. “OS17”, “M-S” and “022421” (manufacturing date) are stamped on the knob end. Length is 33.5” and weight is 30.9 oz.
Game Used Gamers has provided a four-page letter detailing the photo-matches. John Taube of PSA/DNA has authenticated the bat with a perfect GU 10 grade confirming the match to Getty Image #1343022312.
