Montevertine was bought in 1967 by Sergio Manetti, then a steel industrialist, as a vacation home. He renovated the house making it habitable and immediately planted two hectares of vineyard and set up a small winery with the idea of producing some wine for his friends and clients. The first vintage produced, 1971, was discreet and Sergio Manetti decided to send some bottles to Vinitaly in Verona through the Chamber of Commerce of Siena. It was a great success and excited Sergio to the point that after a few years he definitively abandoned his industrial activity to dedicate himself solely to wine, supported by the advice of Giulio Gambelli and with the support of Bruno Bini, the trusted winemaker. New vineyards were planted, new cellars were built, with a business growth that never stopped. Sergio Manetti passed away in November 2000, since that day the estate has been managed by his son Martino Manetti who keeps intact the values of tradition that have always been the banner of Montevertine.
