British Nine-inch Light Dragoon Pistol, c. 1770-80, 9 1/8 in., .70 caliber round barrel with ring decoration at the breech and Tower ordnance proof marks on the top of the barrel; straight double bridle lock with double line border engraving, pointed tail engraved "TOWER," crown over "GR" engraved below the pan along with a stamped crown broad arrow mark, the inside of the lock plate stamped "TB" and with a crown over "8" inspector's mark; walnut stock with carved plateau around the breech plug tang, 1786-dated storekeeper's mark stamped behind the lock mortice, "29" stamped on the flat to the rear of the side plate, "RS" stamped in front of the trigger guard; brass furniture including a butt cap, trigger guard, "S" side plate marked "IS" and a tapering brass rammer pipe, no rammer, overall lg. 15 in.
Condition
Condition: Barrel toned to a mottled brown/gray; lock toned to a mottled brown, hammer screw is an old replacement; stock has scattered dings and dents, there appears to be some wood restoration at the front of the lock mortice, and there are small wood losses to at the muzzle on both sides of the forestock; brass is tone to a deep yellow.
