Early French Cavalry Pistol, c. 1680, 12 13/16 in., .58 caliber unmarked stepped octagon to round barrel with forged cannon muzzle; unbridled convex lock with sharply pointed tail, the plate with scrolling foliate engraving and "LE SEDAN AAYMET" below the pain, delicate swan neck cock with foliate engraving, sculpted comb and bulbous top jaw screw, the steel with sculpted tail and steel spring with sculpted and finely pointed finial; walnut stock with carved plateaus around the lock, side plate and along the rammer channel; iron furniture including a butt cap with long ears, an elongated teardrop thumb piece, trigger guard with foliate finial, long narrow scrolling side plate, and two ring decorated rammer pipes; and early wood rammer, overall lg. 20 in.
Condition
Condition: Iron toned to mottled gray with scattered light pitting; vent has early copper bushing and no evicence of reconversion; lock has light pitting especially in the pan area, side nails appear to be original; area of wood repair at the front of the lock mortice, evidence of a stock repair just forward of the entry pipe and small wood losses along he forestock.
