N.B. Fritz Henle studied at the Bavarian State Academy of Photography and then trained with the art historian and photographer Clarence Kennedy in Florence while he documented Italian Renaissance sculpture in fine detail. This work funded Henle's early journeys throughout the Mediterranean and the Middle East. A prolific editorial photographer, Henle was a frequent contributor to LIFE, Harper's Bazaar, and Town and Country, producing a wide range of material from portraiture and fashion to documentary and travel stories. In 1958, Henle moved to the Virgin Islands where he spent the rest of his life and produced much of his later work, including
Sisal Factory, Haiti. The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin houses an archive of the photographer's oeuvre.
