N.B. This action-filled sculpture portrays John Wayne in his role as Rooster Cogburn, the "one-eyed reprobate frontier marshal" in the movie True Grit. Harry Jackson admired Wayne as a hero who spoke to and for the common man. Jackson wrote, "He was the perfect figure for me to sculpt. In all his movie roles, even the non-Western ones, he was a wonderful embodiment of the timeless strength of the rugged individualist, the one-man majority that I believe in with my entire being."
