John Frederick Kensett (American, 1816-1872)
Landscape with Horses, Hudson, New York
Monogrammed "JF.K." l.l., identified on an exhibition label from the William A. Farnsworth Library and Art Museum, Rockland, Maine (see below), affixed to the frame backing.
Oil on canvas, 16 x 25 in. (41.0 x 63.7 cm), framed.
Condition: Lined, new stretcher, retouch to the upper corners and along old stretcher bar marks, three small spots, possible old repairs to sky c.r., fine craquelure, minor surface grime.
Provenance: Victor D. Spark, New York art dealer, in 1945; through to the collection of Lewis Iselin Jr., Maine; to his daughter Edith Iselin Byron; to the current owner by family descent.

Condition: Framed dimensions are 20 3/8 x 29 5/8 x 2 1/2 in. (Depth given includes the protusion of the stretcher in the back, which is not flush with the back of the frame.)
