John Munroe Mahogany Shelf Clock, Barnstable, Massachusetts, c. 1800, case attributed to William Munroe, Concord, the case with molded fret top and brass finials, painted iron dial with Roman numerals and signed John Munroe/Barnstable in the lower gilt scroll cartouche, line and banded inlaid base with scalloped apron and high French feet, eight-day "passing strike" movement with recoil escapement and bell with casting mark Ainsworth/Warrington, lead weight and pendulum, together with a bench-made inlaid shelf, ht. of clock, 40 in.
Dial and signature are undisturbed, fret top is possibly the original, veneer lifting and losses on case, period pendulum, weight and hands.
