ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS., side of loading lever marked KERR'S PATENT/APRIL 14, 1857 with a very lightly stamped T nearby, checkered walnut grips with a cartouche on each side, barrel lg. 6, overall lg. 12 5/8 in.
Provenance: Through family descent to the consignor, owned by 1st Lieutenant Melvin S. Smith, Company E, 13th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Steel parts look to have a coating of linseed oil which could be carefully cleaned off revealing more bluing, some plum colored parts, hammer has a small nick missing from the upper right, walnut grips in good condition with visible cartouche marks.
